Who are Sangini?

Sangini is a Black and minority ethnic (BME) led, multicultural women’s organisation based in South Shields, Tyne and Wear. They seek to improve the quality of women’s lives by increasing their physical, mental and spiritual health through educational, creative and participatory activities that also celebrate cultural diversity.

They seek to reach BME, disadvantaged and excluded women in innovative and creative ways whilst providing opportunities for tackling inequalities. Their previous projects have had a positive impact in encouraging women from different communities to engage in educational, creative and participatory activities by providing support and encouragement thereby removing the social and cultural barriers.

Knock Knock – Support from Sangini for women across Sunderland and South Tyneside

Knock Knock – Sangini are knocking on your door to tell you about our Covid-19 support project that they are currently running with women in South Tyneside and Sunderland.

Sessions are held in Bengali with Srijoni group. So, if you are a Bangladeshi woman or know any Bangladeshi women who feel isolated and can benefit from meeting like-minded ladies, then please get in touch. All sessions are held online to ensure Sangini are taking all precautions to protect the women taking part in the project. The project includes direct group work and 1:1 support.

  • Direct group work – Experienced artists and health professionals are invited to the sessions. Working with Roohia Syed Ahmed women are learning Arabic Calligraphy and with Parveen Abdur, women are learning various crafts to create own work, express their lives affected by Covid19 and give positive messages of support to each other.
  • 1:1 support – is given around mental health, digital skills to build confidence, encourage women to join the groups sessions and feel integrated.

Resources, such as craft packs, information sheets in community languages will be provided.

Workshops dates and times: 

  • Mondays – 7pm – 8.30pm
  • Thursdays – 9.30am – 12pm
