Get “Spring” in your step

Spring is here

Spring can be an energising time for people, with lighter days, flowers coming out and vitamin D from the sun. One to one mental health support, including counselling, can help with improving wellbeing but these interventions also often encourage getting active in your spare time as physical activity and spending time outdoors in natural spaces have both been shown to improve wellbeing. This helps you to gain new positive structures to your life and hopefully gain a brighter outlook. Looking for ideas to help you get started? Think about:

  • Socialising – meeting up with people outside, picnics in the park, the beach, walking groups etc, sometimes just being around others even if your not with them can help you feel part of society.
  • Walking/ running/ cycling- as well as the view exercise helps with releasing positive chemicals in your brain to make you feel good as well as achievement when you complete it.
  • Feeling the weather- having the sun warm you, feeling the breeze of a light wind can make you just feel more alive or relaxed depending on what your doing.
  • Listening and watching nature- listening to birds singing, catching a glimpse of a deer in the woods, a seal at the coast.
  • Gardens- walking around them if you travel to one, as well as maintaining your own, your own place of peace to chill and relax but connected with the outside world.
  • Day trips– going to the beach, parks, lakes, wood, country parks etc.
  • Getting active- trying golf, foot golf, tennis, bowling, five a side, challenge yourself to a walk or even a mountain.

There may be a whole lot more you may be able to do that you may be able to benefit from if you think about it or do a google search. The Sun may get its hat on so why don’t you spend some time in the outdoors? It could have a very positive affect on your mood and wellbeing.
