ACTS are kindly asking for people to get involved in this year’s appeal and help them spread the Christmas Spirit around South Tyneside. ACTS are asking people to fill a show box with items that can be given as a gift to an older person. Receiving a Christmas shoe box brings so much joy to those who don’t normally receive any gifts or are struggling financially. It shows people that they live in a community who care, especially for those who are lonely, isolated, or just not able to get out and about.
The boxes will be delivered by ACTS staff and volunteers to older people around South Tyneside. Before delivery we will also add a Christmas card made by local primary school children, and a list of emergency contacts, sources of support, and other helpful information for over the Christmas period.
This is how you can help…
- Find an old shoebox – if you don’t have one at home, you can always pop into a local shoe shop.
- Wrap it with Christmas Paper – please wrap the box and lid separately. This allows us to add Christmas card made by local school children and other helpful information.
- Fill it with useful gifts – you can get some inspiration from the list below
- Attach a slip to outside to say if the gift is for a man/lady/unisex.
- Drop off your box at ACTS office no later than 12 noon on 10th December – close the lid with a rubber band. Please do not tape the lid shut.
Ideas of what to put in your Christmas Shoe Box…
- Toiletries and smellies
- Gloves/hats/scarves
- Craft pack or puzzle
- Chocolate/sweets
- Non-perishable food items and Christmas treats, such as tea/coffee, Christmas pudding, tins
