What is Debt Awareness Week 2024?
Debt Awareness Week is an annual campaign coordinated by StepChange Debt Charity which this year takes place from 18th to 24th March 2024. Each year the campaign aims to shine a spotlight on the causes for problem debt and the issues people are dealing with and Debt Awareness Week 2024 is focusing on the main barriers to getting debt advice.
What are the barriers to getting debt advice?
There are lots of reasons why people might delay getting the debt advice they need which includes:
- Not understanding what debt advice is and how it works
- Dealing with anxiety, stress or a mental health condition
- Bring worried about credit files
- Not having enough time to get debt advice
- Feeling ashamed and not wanting loved ones to find out
