Who are Covid Champions and Campaigners and can anyone sign up?
Covid Champions (Sunderland) and Covid Campaigners (South Tyneside) are local people who will help to provide the residents and communities of Sunderland and South Tyneside with up-to-date guidance and advice on Covid-19. This will help everyone to be able to make sense of the latest facts about the virus and make informed choices, to help us keep people safe, reassured and supported in these uncertain times. Anyone who lives or works in Sunderland or South Tyneside and wishes to share information and raise awareness, can apply for the role.
What skills will I need to become a Champion or Campaigner?
You do not need any formal qualifications for the roles. All we are looking for is the person who has good social skills, is sensitive and caring towards others, is reliable, dependable and appreciates other people’s right of making decisions. You can apply even it is your first time doing this sort of thing and no formal training is necessary. There will be provision of easy to access information about Covid-19 through infographics, videos, and email. Questions will be answered quickly with public health input.
What will be my role?
- You will become the point of contact within your community (family, friends, neighbourhood, place of worship, community organisation, workplace, school) and will be able to pass on the key Covid-19 messages to the community.
- You will also be able to encourage others to become Champions/Campaigners.
- Please note that it is not an enforcement or regulatory role
- You will be able to let the team know:
- what information or guidance is and isn’t working
- if any information is confusing
- if you’re getting questions you cannot answer from your local community
