New courses starting in May 2022 from Sunderland Women’s Centre
Sunderland Women’s Centre provide three areas of activities for women across Sunderland; Education, Health and Leisure in the form of short/part-time courses. The majority of courses offered are of ten or eleven weeks duration and you can join the courses you are interested in by attending an upcoming enrolment session.
New Courses
Sunderland Women’s Centre are offering as number of new courses which will be delivered across the coming weeks, including:
- Brush Up Maths – Improve your basic maths skills
- Simply flowers workshops – First workshop 26h April
- Basic ESOL – Beginners English for speakers of other languages
- What makes us human? – Discussing the big questions asked in philosophy
- Brush up English – Improve your basic literacy skills
- Book club – Read and share your favourite book with fellow readers
- Mother and Toddler Group – Play and learn with your child (limited spaces)
- Knit and Natter – Social group. Bring your own designs along and enjoy knitting with fellow enthusiasts
- Tune into you – What do you need help with? Healing and how to go about it.
- Singing Group – Social group. Come along and join others for a sing along
Accredited Courses in Partnership with Sunderland College
Sunderland Women’s Centre offer free Maths and English courses from Entry Level 1 up to Level 2 that will provide you with a Functional Skills qualification.
You can also study Entry Level 1, up to Level 2, English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL). The courses are aimed at improving all aspects of English language including; speaking and listening, reading and writing. You must attend one of the enrolment sessions to secure your place. There is a £2 enrolment fee applicable to the ESOL courses, however it may be free through fee remission depending on your circumstances (an applicable fees will be discussed at enrolment).
Creche Facilities Available
Sunderland Women’s Centre Creche is committed to providing a safe, educational, stimulating and secure environment for all children. Creche leaders are fully qualified and the facility is inspected by OFSTED. Creche places are available not only to mothers but to all carers of children under the age of 5 years. The creche costs £1 per child per session and be sure to book your childcare at enrolment.

All of these courses commence on 3rd May 2022 however must be enrolled onto, with each requiring a £2 non-refundable enrolment fee. To enrol onto a session, you can attend the Sunderland Women’s Centre base at: 8 Green Terrace, Sunderland, SR13PZ on 25th, 26th, 27th and 28th April 2022 between 10am-12pm and 1pm-3pm.
