The National Community Mental Health Survey

The National Community Mental Health Survey

You may be supporting people who have used community mental health services during the end of last year which is the period covered by the survey. (see below). The Engagement and Involvement Team of the Quality Care Commission hope you can encourage and support them to share their experiences of care by completing the survey. This helps to give a representative national picture of the quality of care provided by community mental health services – from the point of view of service users.

The community mental health survey is carried out by every trust providing NHS community mental health services, and this year includes 58 trusts.

Samples are drawn by the trust. People aged 18 and over are eligible for the survey if they received specialist care or treatment for a mental health condition, had been seen by the trust between 1 September 2015 and 30 November 2015, and meet the eligibility criteria for the survey as set out in the survey instruction manual.

The fieldwork for the survey is currently underway and will complete on 24 June 2016.

People are sent a (postal) questionnaire, and up to two reminders are sent to non-responders. The questionnaire asks people about different aspects of their care such as staff, planning and reviewing their care and crisis care.

We would like to encourage as many people to respond as possible, and to encourage trusts to encourage this locally. In January of this year we sent an ebulletin to trusts encouraging them to publicise the survey to their local service users and suggesting ways they may like to do this.

Any questions about the surveys can be sent to the surveys team at CQC at patient.survey@cqc.org.uk and there is information about the CQC patient survey programme at http://www.cqc.org.uk/content/surveys

Thank you

Best wishes
