With the summer holidays underway, many families face increased costs for childcare, food, activities and days out. Sunderland City Council has brought together a range of money-saving offers and support services through its Summer Savings campaign to help residents make the most of the holidays while keeping costs down.
The campaign highlights a variety of support options, including the Lightning Reach Financial Support Portal, which helps people find and apply for financial assistance with essential costs such as food, utility bills and clothing. Families can quickly check their eligibility and access support from trusted providers in one place.
Residents can also find information about school uniform support, childcare funding, and the Holiday Activity and Food (HAF) Programme, which offers free activities and healthy meals for eligible children and young people during the school holidays.
To help families enjoy the summer for less, the campaign includes links to offers on cheap days out, discounted attractions, low-cost cinema tickets, and “kids eat free” meal deals. There are also travel savings available across the North East, including reduced bus fares and free travel for eligible children when accompanied by a paying adult.
Additional support is available through Sunderland’s Crisis & Resilience Fund, while the Sunderland App provides access to local deals, discounts and free activities throughout the city.
