Specialist Housing Advice Service South Tyneside

Citizens Advice Gateshead have been awarded a contract by the Legal Aid Agency to offer free housing advice and casework assistance to clients with housing issues throughout South Tyneside.

This service will be run on an appointment basis from South Tyneside Citizen’s Advice South Shields office… see below for address.

Get help with…

• Any possession action taken against a tenant or occupier at any stage of the possession process i.e., from the date they are given notice to leave up until the final eviction by bailiffs. This includes possession action taken for rent arrears, anti-social behaviour, breach of tenancy, s.21 “no fault” evictions and illegal evictions.
• Homelessness – this can include advice on rights, options, challenges to homelessness decisions and appeals
• Serious disrepair – this can include advice, negotiation, applications to court for repairs to be completed and compensation for any losses.

This service can cover advice, negotiation, and advocacy at court.

You do have to be financially eligible for legal help/legal aid to access this service. This will include most households on income related benefits or on a low income, but assessments can be completed on referral if you are unsure whether your qualify.
