Sunderland Community Children and Young People’s Mental Health Service (SCCYPMHS) is a team of professionals who offer support and advice to aid mental health and positive well-being.
Our service works with children and young people aged 0-18 who may be showing signs of emotional distress and/or behavioural difficulties. We aim to deal with such difficulties at the earliest possible stage of intervention in the hope that children and young people will develop skills and resilience to promote positive well-being.
We work side by side with children/young people and their families to support them when things are tough. We are here to empower children and young people to live a full, happy and healthy life.
We offer short term support for young people up to the age of 18 at the earliest signs of difficulties.
Some people like having support in a group and some prefer having their own sessions with one of our lovely staff. We will always advise you about what we think is best.
If you have 1:1 support it will be in a safe, confidential space with you and your therapist. All of our help has been proven to work well!
We can help with things like:
- Feeling worried
- Feeling low or sad
- Problems with relationships
- Managing big emotions
- Talking about difficult things that have happened to you …….and lots more!
Once we know more about you, we will talk to you about what we think might help.
One of the things we do is to run groups and they can be such a good way to get support. Sometimes being with other people, who are finding the same things difficult, can be so helpful!
We do not accept self-referrals into our service, only those made by a professional. If you have concerns about a young person’s mental health, you can approach their school, your GP or any other health professionals who may be working with you, for example a Health Visitor or School Nurse. They can then refer you into our service.
