Spotting the signs of Dementia
During this year’s Dementia Action Week, Alzeimer’s Society is encouraging people to understand the common early signs and symptoms of dementia. These include:
- Memory loss
- Difficulty concentrating, planning or organising
- Problems with language and communication
- Misunderstanding what is being seen
- Being confused about time or place
- Mood changes or difficulty controlling emotions
More symptoms may become apparent once a person’s dementia progresses, such as:
- Aggressive behaviour
- Walking about
- Lack of insight
- Sleep problems
- Delusions
According to Alzeimer’s Society…
- 1 in 3 people in the UK living with dementia do not have a diagnosis
- 91% of people affected by dementia say there are benefits to getting a diagnosis
