Why has the One You Active 10 app been created?
To encourage adults to build more physical activity into their lives, a new strand of work from One You has been launched. This work aims to encourage adults to build more physical activity into their life by simply walking briskly for ten continuous minutes or more every day. The One You Physical Activity campaign highlights that ten continuous minutes of brisk walking everyday:
- Gets the heart pumping
- Can help to make people feel better
- Can help people to feel more energetic
- Helps to improve mood.
People are being encouraged to download the free One You Active 10 app which shows how much brisk walking they are currently doing and which provides tips and encouragement on how people can fit ten minute bursts of brisk walking into their day.
How can the app help me?
This new app can allows you to monitor how much you are walking and how briskly you are walking. As well as this the app will encourage you to take part in bursts of brisk walking throughout the day to help to improve your health. Over time, brisk walking can lower the risk of serious illnesses like heart disease and type 2 diabetes. Whether you’re walking to work, stepping out at lunchtime, walking to the shops or local park or taking the dog for a walk, there are lots of ways you can fit ten minutes of brisk walking into your life. You don’t have to go to the gym, wear sportswear or start expensive fitness programmes to get the benefits of an active lifestyle, walking counts too!
How can I get the app?
There is a free Active 10 app which shows how much brisk walking you are doing and where you can fit ten minute bursts of brisk walking into your day.
