What is the Great North Care Record ?

Healthwatch Sunderland would like to invite to an event that they are hosting in partnership with the Great North Care Record (GNCR).  For those who aren’t already familiar GNCR is a regional Integrated Digital Care Record programme for the people of the North East and North Cumbria.

In the past, every NHS healthcare organisation has held its own set of records about its patients. That means important information held in one part of the system may not be easily available to health professionals when they are caring for you – even in an emergency.

Now doctors, nurses and health professionals across the North East and North Cumbria are teaming up to improve the way patient information is shared, with your consent. This will improve the care you receive, as well as helping the NHS to run more efficiently.

The first steps in the Great North Care Record initiative took place during 2016, with the introduction of a new electronic system enabling NHS health professionals providing you with treatment, to view a summary of your medical records.

What does this mean for me?

As a patient, that means the specialists providing your care can see the right information at the right time, so that they can manage your care better. To find out more about this change, and the steps we are taking to manage your information securely.

To ensure that the people of Sunderland have their say about this process, Healthwatch Sunderland are hosting engagement events.  These will include a presentation by a representative from the Great North Care Record and workshops which will be facilitated by Teeside University.

If you have an interest in health or are a carer we would welcome your attendance at one of these events.  We would also appreciate if you could share this with others who may be interested or would benefit from the information.
